Jonah and the Whale

The prophet who refuses his calling is swallowed by a great fish, spends three days in its belly, and is vomited back onto land to fulfill his purpose. The belly of the whale as the nigredo, the necessary swallowing before rebirth.

The whale doesn't kill Jonah. It incubates him. The belly is the alchemical vessel.

The pattern underneath: Individuation. The lifelong process of becoming who you actually are: not who your parents wanted, not who society shaped, but the person your whole self is trying to become.
