The Descent of Inanna

Sumerian mythology

The goddess Inanna descends to the underworld, is stripped of everything at each of seven gates, dies, and is reborn. The feminine hero's journey: individuation through surrender rather than conquest.

This is the non-Western hero's journey. The hero doesn't conquer. She is stripped, dies, and is reborn. The gates strip the Persona.

The pattern underneath: The Hero. The part of you that says yes to the hard thing.
