The Grail Quest
Arthurian legend
The knights of the Round Table quest for the Holy Grail, the vessel of wholeness that can heal the wounded king and restore the wasteland. The Grail is the Self. The wasteland is the psyche without the Self. The quest IS individuation.
Each knight enters the forest 'where it was darkest and there was no path.' Individuation has no map. You must find your own way in.
The pattern underneath: The Self. The wholeness that's bigger than your everyday 'I.' If your conscious self is a city, the Self is the entire country.
